Thanks for trying out the trial version of the Ookla Speed Test. If you have any questions or would like to inquire about purchasing a license, please contact us via email at speedtest@ookla.com. The temporary license included with this trial version expires on September 28, 2011.

How to setup the Speed Test

  1. Extract the contents of this Zip into the directory on your web server where you want to try it out (keeping the Zip directory structure intact).
  2. Open settings.xml in a text editor and edit the server url to reflect the full path to upload.php, upload.aspx or upload.asp (usually in the speedtest subfolder in the directory where you extracted). For example, if your web server domain is www.example.com and you place the trial into /testing - then you would replace installationurl with www.example.com/testing to make the final line be <server url="http://www.example.com/testing/speedtest/upload.php"> (try opening the URL you place here in a browser to be sure it is correct, it will show something like size=### if it is working).
  3. If you want the upload portion of the test to use ASP.NET or ASP instead of PHP, then adjust the same line to end in upload.aspx or upload.asp. The line would then look like <server url="http://www.example.com/speedtest/speedtest/upload.aspx"> for example.
  4. Rename index-black.html to index.html (replace the current index.html) if you want the test to be black instead of white. You can rename index-white.html to index.html to get it back to white.
  5. That is it! You should now have a working trial version of the Ookla Speed Test. If something does not seem to be working correctly though, don't hesitate to email us at speedtest@ookla.com.
